Beautiful Buddy is a truly special dog with so much love to give. He has spent three years living in a family home, where he shown himself to be affectionate, loyal, and deeply people-focused. Buddy forms strong bonds with those he trusts and loves being close to his people, often happiest when included in everyday life.
Buddy is a sensitive boy and does experience anxiety, which means he needs a calm, patient, and understanding home. He can be initially shy and reserved with new people and environments and requires time to feel safe. Once that trust is built, his affectionate and devoted nature really shines through.
Buddy has also shown signs of separation anxiety and can become destructive when left alone. Because of this, we feel he would really benefit from living with a confident canine companion, as this helps him feel safe and settled. He genuinely enjoys the company of other dogs and takes comfort from having another dog in the home. He can live with a male or female dog and enjoys their company and play. However, he can be influenced by other dogs’ reactions, so a calm and confident companion would suit him best. Buddy is also cat-friendly.
Buddy can be reactive when unfamiliar people enter the home and is particularly wary of strangers, especially men. This behaviour comes from anxiety rather than aggression, and he needs careful management and support around visitors, allowing him space and time without pressure to interact. With familiarity and patience, he does settle and can become very friendly.
He is good with children and has previously lived successfully alongside a child, however due to his sensitivity he would be best suited to a home with older, sensible children. He would not cope well with lots of visiting children or a busy, unpredictable household environment.
Outside of the home, Buddy enjoys his walks and absolutely loves running freely in quiet, secure spaces where he can truly relax. Busy or high-footfall environments can be challenging for him, so a quieter location with access to secure open land would be ideal. Fireworks and loud noises are particularly difficult for Buddy and can impact his confidence.
In the home, Buddy can be restless and seeks reassurance, often wanting to stay close to his people. He will benefit from a home where someone is around for much of the day, as he struggles with being left alone for long periods. His need for closeness reflects how loyal and people-orientated he is.
Buddy is intelligent and curious and will need a secure garden with good fencing. He is capable of opening doors if bored or under-stimulated, so sensible management of boundaries will be important. He thrives with mental and physical enrichment and would suit an active household able to meet his needs.
Despite his challenges, Buddy is clean and well-mannered in the home, travels well in the car, and is a wonderful companion for the right person. With the right environment, consistency, and understanding, Buddy has the potential to truly relax and flourish.
