About Lurchers

Lurchers are a crossbreed — typically a sighthound (greyhound, whippet, saluki) crossed with a herding or working breed. The result is a fast, intelligent, affectionate dog with the speed of a sighthound and the trainability of a collie. Lurchers are deeply people-bonded, gentle in the home, and adapt well to family life.

Adopting from rescue

Lurchers are common in rescue, particularly in Ireland where they were used for hare coursing. Many come into rescue young and healthy. They are often highly sociable and easy to live with. Like greyhounds, they need to be walked on lead in unfenced areas.
