About Greyhounds

Greyhounds — particularly retired racing greyhounds — are one of the best-kept secrets in dog rescue. Despite their athletic reputation, they are calm, gentle, and surprisingly low-maintenance indoors. They are built for short bursts of speed, not endurance, and are happy with 2–3 moderate walks a day. They sleep 16–18 hours and are often called "45mph couch potatoes."

Adopting from rescue

Most rescued greyhounds come from the racing industry at 2–5 years old and have never lived in a home. They can be startled by ordinary household sounds and need a patient settling-in period. Many adapt remarkably quickly. Their prey drive means they should always be walked on a lead in open areas.
