Penny

🐕 Border Collie CrossYoung2 yearsFemaleNational
Meet the sweet and affectionate Penny. Penny is a two year old female Collie Cross, large in size, who is loving and playful once she gains trust. Penny is such a sweet girl once she gains trust. She is a bit nervous but loves cuddles and playing. If her trusted staff member took her to the paddock, Penny would run around with them and really enjoy herself. She is great on the lead and doesn’t pull. Penny hasn’t encountered children on walks but has been fine walking past dogs and people. She handles passing cars well, and even a tractor went past with no reaction. She has growled at dogs in the kennels, but with slow introductions and trust-building, this can likely be managed. She doesn’t like getting into cars much and had to be lifted in to travel. Her new owners will need to understand she needs time to get to know people. Penny’s new home will ideally be familiar with herding breeds or understand their traits. She will need boundaries to minimize any guarding behaviour and should be kept busy with puzzle toys or jobs to occupy her. Penny will need plenty of exercise, though this should be on lead or long line until she has reliable recall. She suffers from motion sickness in cars, which can be treated with medication. She needs to learn to trust people at her own pace. Any males in the household should understand she is wary of men, and this trust may take longer to develop. Penny was toilet trained and used a crate to sleep with the door open in her previous home, although she is not fully crate trained. She may need a refresher in a new home. She has previously guarded food, so she should be fed in her safe space until this behaviour has ceased. Penny will need someone around most of the day to gradually build her alone time and spend quality time with her to build trust. Penny is a lovely, cuddly, playful girl who needs boundaries, patience, kindness, and time. She needs to be kept busy to allow her natural behaviours to be met and given time to know she is safe and can trust her new family so that she can relax and flourish.
