Whippet for Adoption in the UK

5 Whippet looking for homes

About Whippets

Whippets are elegant, gentle sighthounds that are affectionate at home and athletic outdoors. They are quiet indoors, rarely bark, and are surprisingly gentle with children despite their speed. Like greyhounds, they are often much calmer housemates than their athletic appearance suggests.

Good with

  • Active owners
  • Families with children
  • Multi-dog households
  • Flat dwellers with access to outdoor space

Think about

  • Thin coat — needs a coat in cold weather
  • Recall unreliable near prey — lead walking in open areas
  • Sensitive temperament — respond poorly to harsh training methods

Adopting from rescue

Whippets in rescue are often from racing or coursing backgrounds, or owners who underestimated their exercise or emotional needs. They are sensitive dogs that can suffer separation anxiety — early work on alone time is recommended. Most adapt well to home life quickly.
